Fukuyama is a city in the southeastern end of Hiroshima prefecture. It is the second largest city with a population of 470,944, as of March 2015. Its mild winters and bright summer days make it a comfortable place to live. Also Fukuyama is known as a safe city which has not been affected by natural disaster. Fukuyama takes pride in being the rose capital of Japan, and holds its annual Rose Festival in May. Right in the heart of the city stands its historic castle, which was used from 1622 to 1874. To its southern end lies Tomonoura, a picturesque port town with 1000 years of history. It was Tomonourafs timeless beauty that inspired Hayao Miyazakifs movie, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea and James Mangold to shoot scenes for the movie, Wolverine.
